TOPIC: THE BENEFIT OF FASTING
SCRIPTURE: But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom. Psalms 35:13
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Fasting subdues the flesh and brings man’s will into submission to the Will of God.
Fasting is one spiritual tool or weapon for the child of God. It has been established that fasting places a person on a fast lane of life. To fast is to last.
Now, one benefit of fasting is that fasting subdues the flesh and brings man’s will into submission to the Will of God
When Saul was on his way to Damascus to persecute Christians as his usual practice, he encountered God, and he saw a bright light from heaven. That encounter interrupted his journey.
He fell on his knees and became blind on the spot. Thus he was ushered into a compulsory fast for three days (Acts 9:1-15). This was the experience that finally broke Saul, making him Paul the apostle.
So, if a person has an unbendable iron will, a consecrational fast can break that will. If there is something in a person that is resistant to the Will of God, a Scriptural fast or a revelation-oriented fast can bring him to his knees before God. When man is on his knees, God will be on His feet to work.
Smith Wigglesworth, a man who God used to raise many dead people once said that he used to be very temperamental. He could be so angry that his body would be vibrating like an electric cable. Then he told God, ‘O Lord, this anger cannot continue.’ He proceeded on a desperate fast for about ten days. At the end of the fast, he was so broken that his conscience became as tender as that of a child; he could no longer hurt even a fly. All that anger was turned against the devil.
This is because fasting humbles the soul, thereby bringing man’s will into submission to the Will of God. And when the will of man is out of the way, the will of God will be enforced.
Remember this: Fasting subdues the flesh and brings man’s will into submission to the Will of God.

Refuse to allow excessive feasting and a lifestyle of wanton pleasure swallow your destiny.
Engage in periodic fasting to know and obey the will of God for your life.
PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace to engage in periodic fasting. Help me to subdue my flesh and bring my will in subjection to Your Will Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
