TOPIC: THE DANGER OF LOW SELF-ESTEEM.
SCRIPTURE: And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house. Judges 6:15.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The kind of atmosphere people grow in affects the kind of life they live.
Sometime ago, I heard the story of a young boy who was in the same classroom with his elder sister in Britain. It was said that the boy was dull headed.
One day, a question was asked in class, and he lifted his hand trying to give the answer, and he said the wrong answer. The whole class erupted in laughter and mockery of him. He looked towards his sister, hoping for some solace and reassurance, but to his utmost dismay, the sister was laughing at him too. That was what broke him. That is, “If all these people are mocking me, you, my sister, are mocking me too?” (Paraphrased).
He walked out of that class in rage and vowed to hate human beings saying that all human beings are bad. He became a merciless serial killer because he felt that nobody was worth it. That is, if his sister could mock him in the class along with others then who was worth it? That is how badly children turn out later in life when they are subjected to terrible feelings of low self-esteem.
Low self-esteem is dangerous. It is one of the forces that fight joy and excitement. It affects energy, enthusiasm level, performance, and competence. It also breeds deep-seated resentment, rendering the victim hateful, bitter, depressive and dangerous to himself and to others.
Women can also be victims of low self-esteem. There are women today who are a shadow of themselves because of ill-treatments. Some husbands use abusive words on their wife, calling them, “Liability wife. You are a burden in my life. What can you amount to? You don’t know what to do except to be eating in this house.” Before long, her potential dies, and a once beautiful woman begins to look ugly. A highly talented woman becomes bankrupt.
Please, let’s be careful how we treat people, especially vulnerable ones like children. The kind of atmosphere people grow in affects the kind of life they live. Never make anyone feel inferior; be a source of inspiration, joy, and excitement to people.
REMEMBER THIS: The kind of atmosphere people grow in affects the kind of life they live.
ASSIGNMENT(S):
1. Make up mind to be a joy giver.
2. Show someone some love today. Find out why someone is not happy and see what you can do to put a smile on their face.
3. Refuse to allow your situation to determine your joy.
PRAYER: Lord, I am complete in You. So, I refuse to feel inferior to anybody. I am the solution my generation is looking for. Thank You Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
