SCRIPTURE: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The way we think determines the way we act, and the way we act determines how we end up.
We live in a generation with gross misunderstanding of life’s purpose. Some people think they are alive to make money or to make a name. Some think they are alive for pleasure.
But is life truly about money, fame and pleasure? Our anchor scripture and Isaiah 43:21 have helped us understand the true essence or reason for our lives. Maintain your reverence for God and live by His principles, that is why we are alive (Ecclesiastes 12:13 Paraphrased).
It was Myles Munroe (of blessed memory) who once said, “Where purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable.” Life is vulnerable to abuse where the purpose of life is not known.
It is also important to note that where purpose is wrong, pursuit can never be right. Our actions determine our outcome. The way we think determines the way we act, and the way we act determines how we end.
The tragedy of life is that many people don’t think seriously about the life in the afterlife until they find themselves in a very critical or near-death situation.
When Steve Job was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at age 49, he said he saw his life fading away before his eyes. In his terminal days in the hospital, while reflecting on his life, he said: “I have made all the money I could make. I have done everything I could do, but I realised that there are still many things I haven’t achieved.”
In that condition, when he was asked to give a speech to a group of university students at their graduation, he gave a 15-minute speech and asked a crucial question, “What would you do if you had only twenty-four hours to live?”
Beloved, this is a vital question everyone should ask themselves: “If I had just 24 hours to live, what would I do?” Is it to go and make the best hair style or make some investments? No! I think what would be uppermost on most people’s mind is, “If I die now, where am I going? Is there someone I need to reconcile with? Is there someone I need to preach to about salvation and the love of Christ?”
You know what Steve Jobs said in conclusion to the students? He said, “Live everyday as though you have just 24 hours to live because one day you will have only 24hours to live.”
Beloved, the truth is that there is no amount of faith that can stop “that one day” from coming.
REMEMBER THIS: The way we think determines the way we act, and the way we act determines how we end.
